The Dream is the set in the southern provinces of Poland during the first half of the seventeenth century, shortly before the devastating pogroms of Bogdan Chmielnicki and his Cossack hordes. During this period the Jewish population of Poland enjoyed unprecedented prosperity and privileged status, but the cold winds of change were already in the air. The historical background, the political climate and the descriptions of Krakow are all authentic.
