Published in conjunction with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's 50th Anniversary Committee, Israel at 50 is a photographic history--with supplemental text--of that young nation. There are 200 exceptional photos, some black-and-white and some in color. Captured on film are cities (including Haifa, Tel Aviv, and Jerusalem), places (the Sea of Galilee, the Negev desert, Rachel's Tomb, the Western Wall, refugee camps, and orange groves, among others), people (Theodor Herzl, Golda Meir, Menachem Begin, Yitzhak Shamir, and Shimon Peres), and events (Arab riots, Jewish demonstrations, war). The book also contains quotes relative to the photographs and text--quotes from an early Zionist advocate, from the Balfour Declaration, and from Begin, David Ben-Gurion, Yitzhak Rabin, and Benjamin Netanyahu. Several Jewish publications will be featuring the book, which is a Doubleday Book Club selection.
