Product Description
The author writes from personal experience. He was an eye-witness to the atrocities committed by the Germans against the Jewish people in Europe, and to the heroism manifested by Jewish young men and women in the desperate battle they waged against the Germans from the secrecy of the underground and openly, from behind burning barricades. Though he was not in Warsaw and did not take part in the ~vents he describes, he nevertheless presents a faithful picture; for the German methods of annihilation were the same everywhere, and Jewish courage, wherever it was manifested, all stemmed from the same source of inspiration. The author went through the fiendish torments of the Ger- man occupation in the Vilno Ghetto. He was one of the leaders of the ghetto resistance fighters, and led a partisan band that waged guerilla war- fare in the forests of Lithuania and White Russia. After the Liberation, he initiated and organized the succor of Jewish survivors and Their illegal immigration to their Israel homeland. For two years he headed refugee organization in European D. P. camps. He himself immigrated to the Land of Israel in 1947.After the Israel War of in- dependence he exchanged the sword for the pen. He has so far published eight books, which have been widely acclaimed. Among them: Destruction and Revolt depicting life in the Vilno Ghetto and among the partisans; The Conquest of Jaffa and The Acre Fortress on Jewish resistance in the Land of Israel, The History of Aliya Bet and Nevertheless an ac- count of illegal immigration from its early beginnings;Muranowska7, the present volume, on the Warsaw Ghetto rising.
